About the Role
As the Instrumentation Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving the instrumentation, control and communication systems at the concentrator or smelter sections of the mine. You’ll work with Siemens S7 PLCs, PCS7 DCS, Profibus, Profinet and AS‑i networks. The role includes both maintenance duties and involvement in new installation projects. You’ll also manage SCADA systems, communications, safety and loss‑control, supervise and coach subordinates, and ensure all work follows standard operating procedures and specifications. At times you’ll be on standby duty, and you’ll draw up maintenance procedures and ensure compliance with guidelines.
Who Should Apply
This job is ideal if you have at least five years of experience in a concentrated mining or smelting environment, or as a technician/mechanician working with instrumentation and control systems. Skills & Requirements
- National Diploma (Electrical Engineering – Process Instrumentation & Control) or N6 plus a valid Trade Certificate (Section 13/26D)
- Registration with ECSA is advantageous
- Valid driver’s licence
- 5 years’ experience working in concentrator, smelter or similar environment
- Strong working knowledge of Siemens S7 PLC and PCS7 DCS systems—including configuration, networking, coding, and maintenance
- Experience with Profibus, Profinet, and AS‑i networks
- Ability to maintain SCADA and communications systems, general instrumentation upkeep
- Capability to supervise teams, coach learners and subordinates, and enforce SOPs
- Capacity to handle standby duties across all sections when needed
- Good understanding of safety regulations, instrumentation project management, and loss control
