About the Role
As the Environmental Officer (EO), you will play a key role in ensuring Seriti’s construction projects meet all environmental standards. Reporting to the Site Manager, your main responsibility will be the implementation and monitoring of Environmental Management Programmes (EMPrs). You’ll ensure legal compliance, coordinate with contractors, manage permits, and contribute to sustainability goals in a construction setting.

Skills & Requirements
Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or Environmental Management.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in construction or large infrastructure as an Environmental Officer (EO) or Environmental Control Officer (ECO).
- Strong knowledge of South African environmental laws and international environmental standards.
- Prior experience with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) risk mitigation.
- Desirable: experience working on wind farm or renewable energy projects.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Understand and ensure compliance with environmental permits, including Environmental Authorisations and biodiversity permits.
- Maintain permit records and ensure legal documents are updated.
- Implement the Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) across the site.
- Demarcate restricted and sensitive areas and ensure construction remains within boundaries.
- Conduct environmental audits and manage contractor performance.
- Assist in reporting and investigating environmental incidents.
- Lead site training with contractors and teams on environmental awareness.
- Act as the environmental liaison between the contractor, landowners, and ECO.
