Programme Overview
Are you a recent graduate with a passion for safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ)? Rand Water’s Graduate Development Programme – SHEQ X2 offers an exciting 24-month opportunity to gain practical experience within one of South Africa’s leading water utilities.
Minimum Requirements
- B.Tech in Health & Safety Management
- SAMTRAC or equivalent health and safety qualification
- Root Cause Analysis Technique (RCAT) certification
- Valid driver’s license
Key Responsibilities
As a SHEQ graduate, you’ll support the Scientific Services team by ensuring compliance with legal and internal safety standards, including:
- Delivering SHE inductions for contractors and new employees
- Monitoring contractor compliance on-site
- Coordinating monthly SHE Representative inspections and compiling reports
- Delivering SHE awareness training to internal staff
- Conducting quarterly internal SHEQ audits
- Ensuring adherence to ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 9001 standards
- Managing waste collection and disposal activities on-site
- Maintaining and monitoring CCTV and access control systems
- Completing an assigned project under the guidance of the Risk Control Coordinator
Knowledge Areas
- Comprehensive understanding of Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation in South Africa
- Familiarity with SHEQ management systems such as ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 9001
- Basic proficiency in statistical tools and SHEQ data analysis
- Strong computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong planning, coordination, and time management skills
- Ability to solve problems logically and efficiently
- Proficiency in report writing and presenting SHEQ data
- Computer literacy in health and safety tracking software is a plus
