Job Purpose
Fraser Alexander is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Electrician to join its operations in Mpumalanga. This role involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of MV and LV electrical systems and equipment. Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety and Environment
- Always follow safe working practices.
- Comply with company and client safety policies.
- Report unsafe conditions and behaviours promptly.
- Attend daily pre-shift safety meetings.
- Wear appropriate PPE at all times.
Electrical Maintenance Operations
- Implement and follow maintenance schedules.
- Conduct inspections on key electrical equipment (transformers, substations, etc.).
- Identify faults and perform repairs or replacements as needed.
- Plan and execute downtime for maintenance activities.
- Perform specialised maintenance on conveyors and fire detection systems.
- Work with Siemens PLC and SCADA systems (advantageous).
General and Preventative Maintenance
- Create and manage job cards (R cards).
- Carry out legal inspections and maintain logbooks.
- Perform panel changes, sieve bend tightening, flood box unblocking, and more.
- Capture and update maintenance records in the key-system.
Team Management & Support
- Coach and support co-workers on safe work practices.
- Participate in maintenance planning meetings.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
- Trade Test (MQA or MERSETA preferred).
- Dual Trade Certificate (Electrician + Instrumentation/Mechanician) is advantageous.
- N2 in Electrical Engineering subjects.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in an electrical maintenance role.
- MV training/qualification is a plus.
- Experience with Siemens PLC and SCADA systems will be beneficial.
Skills and Abilities:
- Risk assessment and fault-finding skills.
- Ability to interpret maintenance documentation.
- Basic planning and reporting skills.
- Understanding of electrical engineering safety standards.
- Knowledge of general maintenance tasks and tools.
