Skills & Requirements
- A National Diploma (NQF 6) or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF 7) in Language Practice, Linguistics, Communications, Indigenous Languages, or Journalism
- Minimum of five years’ experience in editorial, language, or content roles, including three years in a supervisory position
- Knowledge of the Official Languages Act and government communication strategies
- Excellent command of writing styles suitable for opinion pieces, scripts, and media statements
- Strong editing and proofreading skills, aligned with the GCIS editorial style guide
- Understanding of tourism development and management, government policies, and national programmes
Key Responsibilities
- Draft and edit speeches, media content, forewords, and opinion pieces for the department
- Develop language policies in line with legislation
- Translate departmental content into various official languages
- Support communication across internal and external platforms, including brochures, reports, and social media
- Conduct desktop research and monitor content trends in tourism and communication
- Organize South African Sign Language interpreters for flagship events
