Introduction
Wits Health Consortium (WHC) is offering a 5-month contract opportunity for an experienced Social Worker to join its team in Parktown, Johannesburg. This role is essential in supporting vulnerable research participants through direct services, counselling, and referral coordination. If you’re a qualified social worker with a passion for helping people in complex situations, this role is for you.
What the Job Is About
The main purpose of this position is to coordinate and manage referral processes for adult and child participants facing difficult social and health circumstances. You will assess needs, maintain accurate records, provide counselling, connect participants to essential services, and support ongoing research conducted at WHC’s School of Public Health.
Who Should Apply
- Holds a Social Work Degree
- Registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP)
- Has a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a social worker
- Available to work Tuesday to Saturday and travel within South Africa
- Fluent in English and at least one local language: isiZulu or isiXhosa
Skills Requirements
- Crisis intervention and counselling experience
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work with diverse populations
- Good administrative, management, and computer literacy
- Well-organised with excellent time management
- Professional ethics, integrity, and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple cases
- Driver’s license (Code B)
- Clearance certificates from SAPS and National Register for Sexual Offenders
