About the Role
The Responsible Pharmacist will oversee the delivery of pharmaceutical care across sub-acute and long-term care environments. This includes ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, managing medication dispensing, supporting the multidisciplinary healthcare team, and helping to grow the pharmacy service.

Key Responsibilities
- Dispense medication based on authorized prescriptions (for in-patient and out-patient care)
- Evaluate and support patients’ medicine-related needs
- Prepare and package medicine or supervise these processes
- Monitor prescriptions and ensure compliance with medication protocols
- Oversee accurate billing for issued medication
- Manage medical aid authorization processes for chronic medications
- Report any discrepancies, medication errors, or adverse drug reactions
- Ensure adherence to Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) guidelines
- Update pharmacy policies and provide regular management feedback
- Support and train other pharmacy staff members
- Participate in continuous quality improvement and attend MDT meetings
Qualifications and Requirements
- BPharm qualification and SAPC registration
- Experience as a Responsible Pharmacist
- Knowledge of Propharm and Clinic Manager systems (advantageous)
- Hospital or clinical experience is a plus
- Strong knowledge of pharmacology, drug interactions, and dosage
- Regulatory compliance and ethical standards
- Excellent leadership and decision-making skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- Computer proficiency required
Specific Requirements
- Clear health, criminal, and credit record
- Two written references
Working Hours
- Monday to Friday: 09:00 – 18:00
- Alternate weekends (2 per month): 10:00 – 15:00
