RCL Foods is hiring a Food Safety Technologist for a permanent role at their Pretoria West site in Gauteng, South Africa. If you have a background in Food Science, Food Technology, or Biotechnology, and want to work in quality assurance, this opportunity is for you.
Job Overview
The main purpose of this role is to monitor food safety systems, submit samples for lab analysis, and ensure that only conforming products are released. The role also supports quality control and assists the QA Technologist as needed.
Minimum Requirements
- BSc Consumer Science / Food Science
- BTech Food Technology / National Diploma in Food Technology
- National Diploma in Biotechnology
- Experience with ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000
Key Responsibilities
External Analysis
- Compile and maintain a customer testing database
- Submit samples for microbiological and analytical testing
- Manage swabbing and environmental monitoring
- Trend and analyze results, identify non-conforming products
- Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices
Food Safety
- Conduct food safety training and hygiene audits
- Monitor allergen management and pest control programs
- Perform daily hygiene checks and glass/plastic checks
- Assist in customer complaint investigations and traceability exercises
- Generate Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for customers
Quality Control
- Establish testing plans for raw materials and final products
- Maintain product retention samples and release samples accordingly
- Record test results and support audit readiness
- Update test methods, equipment calibration, and documentation
