Join AECI Mining as a SHEQ Officer
Do you have strong feelings about SHEQ (safety, health, environment, and quality)? Do you have experience in the mining or explosives industry? AECI Mining is looking for a skilled and motivated SHEQ Officer to join our team in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga.
Job Purpose
As a SHEQ Officer, your main goal is to improve health and safety performance at our site. You’ll be responsible for making sure all environmental, quality, and safety procedures follow the law and our company’s high standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Improve SHEQ behavior and culture through new strategies and training
- Monitor and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental laws (OHS Act, Explosives Act, etc.)
- Lead and support Hazard and Risk Assessments (Hazop studies)
- Help management follow SHEQ manual standards including LSB and CSB
- Advise on how to fix non-compliance issues and legal risks
- Support and organize SHEQ-related training (e.g. driver safety, environmental awareness)
- Run safety campaigns to promote a positive safety culture
- Keep your ISO certifications current (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 9001).
- Lead incident investigations and ensure root causes are fixed
- Report monthly on SHEQ performance
- Control and update documents across departments
- Conduct occupational hygiene surveys to protect employee health
- Manage contractor SHEQ compliance
- Make sure all site inspections and legal appointments are current.
- Conduct behavior-based safety observations
Qualifications & Experience Required
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Diploma in Safety Management or NQF equivalent
- Three to five years of experience in SHEQ positions related to explosives or surface mining
- Full knowledge of OHS Act, Explosives Act, and related SHEQ laws
- Experience with ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001 systems
- Skilled in incident investigation and root cause analysis
- Knowledge of mobile mining equipment and risk management
- Strong computer skills: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams
- Excellent at writing inspection, audit, and corrective action reports
- Valid driver’s license
- Able to pass a police clearance
- Must be able to get a Red Ticket (medical fitness certificate) for mining sites
