Job Purpose:

The Department of Infrastructure is seeking two qualified and competent individuals to provide technical design, production, operation, and maintenance services. These positions will involve maintaining and repairing vehicles, construction plants, and equipment to ensure they are in top working condition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, repair, rebuild, and modify all vehicles, construction plants, and equipment to standard.
  • Supervise trade worker aids and apprentices.
  • Maintain high standards of occupational health and safety.
  • Apply technical skills such as analyzing mechanical issues and ensuring legal compliance.
  • Perform administrative tasks like completing log forms, timesheets, and initiating orders.
  • Prepare and write reports on maintenance activities.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Appropriate Trade Test Certificate (Diesel Mechanic).
  • Valid driving license (Code EC or higher).

Recommended Skills and Experience:

  • Experience maintaining diesel vehicles, including earthmoving machines, is a significant advantage.

Desired Competencies:

  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical work on construction plant, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relations with colleagues.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good planning, problem-solving, and time management skills.

Remuneration:

The salary for this position ranges from R243,597 to R270,357 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. This includes benefits such as a 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, and pension fund contributions as part of the OSD prescripts.
