About the Role: Production Engineering Intern
Unilever is offering an exciting production engineering intern position at its Maydon Wharf site in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. This internship provides hands-on experience, helping you develop key skills in production engineering, process efficiency, and continuous improvement. You will be working within a global leader in consumer goods, gaining exposure to cutting-edge technologies and engineering methodologies.
Main Responsibilities:
As a production engineering intern at Unilever, you will be expected to:

Complete Internship Requirements: Attend training, complete assessments, finish projects, maintain a logbook, and present findings as required by Unilever.

Identify and Solve Problems: Use UMS methods and tools to analyze and eliminate root causes in production processes, with a focus on safety, quality, business priority, and cost deployment.

Optimize Factory Resources: Leverage technical knowledge to improve efficiency, including manpower ratios, ensuring sustainable operations.

Analyze Complex Data: Collect and analyze data to identify problems and develop solutions that improve production outcomes.

Reduce Waste and Loss: Apply methodologies like AM, PM, FI, and QC to eliminate waste and loss across production lines.

Lead Digital Projects: Oversee the deployment of digital activities in factories, ensuring standardization and consistent benefits.

Support Efficiency Projects: Lead or assist with projects aimed at improving production efficiency and aligning with the site’s strategic priorities.

Support UMS and R2S Programs: Help deploy the UMS program at the site and support pillars with improvement plans, governance, and gap analysis.

Ensure Safety and Quality Compliance: Follow SOP procedures and ensure compliance with safety rules and quality standards.
Key Requirements:
You must fulfill the following requirements in order to be considered for this internship:

Completed degree in mechanical, chemical, or industrial engineering.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Strong skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Communication Skills: Good written and verbal communication skills in English.

Analytical Mindset: Ability to think analytically and work with numbers.

Self-Starter: Able to work independently with an agile and proactive mindset.
