The South African Military Health Service (SAMHS) is offering an incredible opportunity for you to join the Military Skills Development System (MSDS) in 2026! This system allows individuals to serve on a two-year contract, gaining invaluable experience and training in various fields within the military.
About the Military Skills Development System (MSDS)
The MSDS provides young South African citizens with the chance to serve in uniform, with recruits receiving military training and further functional training in the first year of service. During the second year, depending on the training completed, recruits will be deployed where needed, applying their skills while continuing to develop their knowledge and expertise.
General Requirements for MSDS Application
- RSA Citizen: You must be a South African citizen (no dual citizenship).
- Age:
- 18–22 years old (for Grade 12 students).
- 18–26 years old (for individuals with a 3-year tertiary qualification).
- Academic Requirements:
- An Admission Point Score (APS) of 24 or above, excluding Life Orientation (LO).
- No criminal record or pending cases.
- You must meet the medical fitness requirements for the appointment.
- No visible tattoos on the face, neck, lower arms, or legs.
Tertiary Qualifications
- N6 or a 3-year diploma or degree are acceptable qualifications for certain positions.
- Please attach proof of residence (or letter from the village chief), your CV, ID copy, Matric Certificate (only statement of results for 2024 accepted), and tertiary qualifications if applicable.

Support Careers
- Patient Administration (Grade 12)
- Logistics (Grade 12)
- Human Resource (Grade 12)
- Physical Training, Sport and Recreation (PTSR) (Grade 12)
- Medical Support Operations (Grade 12 with English, 2nd Language, Maths or Maths Literacy, Life Science, and Physical Science or Geography)
- Health Informatics (Grade 12 with ICT qualification)
- Pest Control Operator (Grade 12 with APS of 38+)
- Chemical Biological Radiation Defence (CBRD) (Grade 12 with Physical Science and Mathematics)
- Musician (Grade 12 + Music Practical Certification from a recognized institution)
Study Opportunities
- MBChB (Grade 12 with APS of 38+, including high scores in Mathematics, Physical Science, Life Science)
- Dental Assistant (Grade 12 with specific subjects, or completed Grade 12 with Dental Assistance Certificate and HPCSA Registration)
- Pharmacy Assistant (Grade 12 with specific subjects)
- Diploma in Nursing (Grade 12, all subjects at Level 4)
