What are the main duties of the role or job?
- Ensure plant production and building equipment run smoothly and safely by performing preventive maintenance, repairs, and minor overhauls in line with safety and quality standards.
- Fix breakdowns and resolve issues raised by supervisors, operators, or other staff to avoid delays in production.
- Make all required adjustments during line changeovers for optimal operation.
- Diagnose and adjust equipment to ensure it operates correctly.
- Regularly check and test equipment and structures to find and report any necessary repairs.
- Apply lubrication to plant machinery and fix or adjust parts such as seals, gaskets, shafts, blades, and O-rings.
- Basic electrical tasks or simple electrical repairs.
- Read and follow blueprints or diagrams.
- Set up machinery and make sure it’s aligned correctly.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on utility systems such as filters, air, plumbing, vacuum systems, and HVAC.
- Take part in activities focused on continuous improvement, such as TPM or similar programs.
- Adhere to department and plant rules, such as preventive maintenance, part procurement, and taking action when safety or risk issues are identified.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area, keeping tools and equipment organized, and always prioritize safety with coworkers.
- Take on other tasks as assigned by supervisors and help other workers when needed.
Qualifications and Experience Needed:
- At least an N3 Certificate (or an equivalent qualification) along with a valid Trade Test Certificate. Must be a certified millwright.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in FMCG, focusing on chemical manufacturing and packaging.
- Must have 2 to 3 years’ experience as a millwright with expertise in both mechanical and electrical work, or be multiskilled. or must be capable in multiple areas.
- Able to perform all tasks related to the role with little supervision.
- Able to work safely and keep the work area free from hazards for yourself, coworkers, and products.
- Able to identify issues that could affect production or operations and take the necessary action to address them.
- Able to work from drawings, sketches, repair manuals, and both written and verbal instructions.
- Must supply tools that meet the supervisor's requirements and maintain them safely.
- Must be capable of climbing ladders, working at heights or in confined spaces, lifting 25 kg, and working in extreme temperatures and wet conditions.
- Must have experience in plant mechanical repairs and maintenance, or be able to show equivalent knowledge and skills.
