Job Description:
As a Refrigeration Technician, you will be responsible for performing both preventive and corrective maintenance on various refrigeration systems, including ammonia refrigeration systems, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems, and ice plant equipment. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of all refrigeration-related equipment on-board ships, at the ice plant, and across I&J's facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform repairs and maintenance on ammonia refrigeration equipment.
- Maintain refrigeration systems other than ammonia, including spiral and plate freezers.
- Conduct repairs on ice plants, slurry ice makers, and HVAC equipment.
- Install and replace parts such as compressors, motors, condensers, evaporators, thermostats, valves, and more.
- Test and refill non-ammonia systems with refrigerants according to industry standards.
- Conduct regular preventive maintenance and inspections on refrigeration and HVAC systems.
- Maintain equipment, tools, and parts inventory, ensuring everything is in safe and effective working condition.
- Complete records related to repairs, maintenance tasks, and inventory management.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
- At least 5 years of practical experience in refrigeration, particularly with ammonia refrigeration systems.
Qualifications:
- Completed Grade 12/Matric/NQF level 4.
- Refrigeration Trade Test certification.
- Safe handling of refrigerants, Category B (Ammonia Refrigeration Practitioner/Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Practitioner).
Additional Skills:
- Up-to-date knowledge of ammonia refrigeration equipment.
- Knowledge of SANS 10147 standards.
- Own transport.
