Position: Cadet Fire Fighter Skills Program
Department: Fire and Rescue Services

Location: City of Cape Town Municipal Area
Key Requirements:
- Educational Qualification: Grade 12 (Mathematics and Physical Science preferred)
- Age: 18 years or older
- Physical Requirements: Must be medically and physically fit
- Teamwork: Ability to work well in a team and handle stressful situations
- Clear Criminal Record: No criminal record (candidates will undergo a criminal background check)
- No Fear: Must not suffer from fear of confined spaces or heights
Compulsory Fitness Test:
All shortlisted candidates must pass a mandatory fitness test, which includes the following:
- Reach Test: 1.9 meters
- 2.4 km Run: Males must complete in 11 minutes, Females in 13 minutes
- Push-ups: 30 push-ups in 60 seconds
- Sit-ups: 30 sit-ups in 60 seconds
- Dead Load Carry: Carry 2 x 25 kg drums over 100 meters
Candidates who successfully pass the physical test will proceed with the next stages, which include:
- A written assessment and interview
- Criminal record check using fingerprints and identity numbers
- City medical evaluation
- Drug test at a City testing center
- Claustrophobia and acrophobia (fear of confined spaces and heights) tests
Important Conditions:
- Candidates have to be residents of the Cape Town Municipality.
- No guarantee of permanent employment after completing the program.
- Only unemployed applicants will be considered.
- Candidates will be required to wear a uniform and protective clothing.
