Job Listing Overview:

Unitrans wants to hire skilled bus drivers with a proven track record. Drives a bus to take passengers on regular routes. Adjusts the lights, temperature, and air flow for passengers. Follows speed limits, traffic rules, and road conditions to keep passengers safe and on time. Holds a valid license and a PrDP, or Has the correct license and a PrDP. This category includes commercial contracts that are not supported by government funding.

  • Must hold a Public Services Driving License (PG) and be skilled in defensive and preventive driving to keep passengers and others safe.
  • Additionally, you should know and follow traffic rules closely to avoid breaking the law or causing accidents.
  • Follow the company’s rules, policies, and guidelines, or adhere to the company’s code of conduct, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must have Grade 12, relevant job training, and the following driver’s licenses: CE-G, CE-PG, and C-G.
  • You need at least 5 years of experience in a similar role.

Key Tasks and Duties:

  • Follow the correct safety and work procedures for your tasks.
  • Read, understand, and agree to the company code of conduct.
  • Follow Unitrans Passenger rules and regulations.
  • Review the driver’s manual and keep it in mind.
  • Report any near misses, incidents, or damage to property, even if you weren’t involved.
  • Understand and follow HST regulations and policies.
  • Avoid accidents and incidents whenever possible while driving.
  • Practice safe driving habits and recognize their importance.
  • Report any incidents or safety-related issues to management right away.
  • Know the procedures related to your job responsibilities.
  • Inspect the bus for issues or malfunctions.
  • Record and report any defects or problems to your supervisor.
  • Decide whether to start the trip depending on the severity of the issue.
  • Attend DSS sessions with your supervisor and HST at Unitrans parks and Vulcan Site.
  • Participate in required training sessions.
  • Register passengers at the start of the trip.
  • Ensure the vehicle is cleaned and refueled as needed.
  • Record and report any incidents or accidents during the trip to the supervisor and line 84/822030.
  • Follow traffic laws at all times.
  • Abide by the customer’s SMS policy.
  • Complete logbooks correctly and keep accurate records of hours.
  • Maintain a positive attitude when interacting with customers.
  • Never deviate from your route unless instructed by a supervisor.
  • Only stop at approved locations, unless directed by your superior.
  • Respect speed limits and signage on the route.
  • Always remove the keys from the ignition when leaving the vehicle.
  • Keep control of the vehicle keys while you have them.
  • Start the vehicle only from inside the cabin.
  • Always block the vehicle’s wheels with two chocks when parking.
  • Use seat belts for yourself and all passengers.
  • Drive with a valid license and RAC2 card.
  • Ensure the vehicle is well-maintained and used properly.
  • Report any vehicle damage to the manager or supervisor.
  • Follow the scheduled collection times on the job card.
  • Only overtake Unitrans vehicles when necessary and authorized.
  • Do not make stops after unloading passengers at the end of your route.
