We are thrilled to announce that applications are now open for the Komatsu Underground Hard Rock South Africa (“Komatsu UGHR-SA”) Apprenticeship Program. As part of our commitment to fostering a skilled workforce, we are offering opportunities to young South Africans who are eager to learn and grow within the mining and heavy machinery industry.
About the Komatsu UGHR-SA Apprenticeship Program:
At Komatsu UGHR-SA, we believe in the importance of skills development, and the Apprenticeship Program plays a key role in building a diverse, highly skilled workforce. This program offers aspiring artisans the chance to receive formal training in a range of technical fields, all while being a part of a company known for its success and strong team culture.
The program is designed to not only give apprentices hands-on experience but also to provide opportunities for employment upon successful completion. We are proud to contribute to the employment landscape in South Africa by creating pathways for Historically Disadvantaged Persons (HDPs) and helping to build the local talent pool.
Apprenticeship Program Details:
- Start Date: Tuesday, 01 April 2025
- Duration: 3 years
- Location: Gauteng (Boksburg, Kempton Park, Germiston)
Key Highlights:
- The program is open to aspiring artisans in fields such as:
- Auto-Electricians
- Boilermakers
- Diesel Mechanics
- Fitters and Tuners
- Millwrights
- Welders
- We aim to enrol mostly Historically Disadvantaged Persons (HDPs).
- After completing the program successfully, apprentices may be offered employment opportunities within GHH South Africa, based on business needs and individual performance.
- Apprentices who do not receive a permanent job will be offered assistance, including CV writing and interview preparation support.
Minimum Requirements for Application:
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Must have a National Senior Certificate (Matric).
- An N2 qualification is an advantage.
- Clear criminal record (MIE verification will be done).
- Medically fit (annual medical assessments will be conducted).

Important Notes:
- All applicants will be assessed and interviewed as part of the selection process.
- Successful candidates will receive a sponsored apprenticeship for three years, with a monthly stipend set according to the Metal Engineering Industries Bargaining Council (MEIBC) regulations.
- The Apprenticeship Program will end if an apprentice fails to complete any of the three years of study.
- Deadline: Applications received after the closing date will not be considered unless a deadline extension is communicated.
- Incomplete applications (missing documents) will not be reviewed.
- Due to limited spaces, applicants who have not been contacted by 07 February 2025 should consider their applications unsuccessful.
