- We are offering an exciting mining Learnership opportunity. As a component of this job, you will partake in an organized 18-month mining learnership and find out about the mining tasks of Sishen Mine both hypothetically and basically.

- The Mining Learnership Programme at Sishen Mine helps unemployed young people from South Africa, especially from the Northern Cape, learn important skills for mining. In this 18-month program, participants will learn mining techniques through hands-on experiences. This program emphasizes safety, community growth, and equal opportunities, helping learners contribute to sustainable work and support empowerment in the industry.
- Candidates must be aged 18 to 35, unemployed, and not enrolled in school to be eligible for this learnership. Applicants from designated groups under Employment Equity, especially from the JTG District and other parts of the Northern Cape, will be given priority.
- Kumba Iron Ore produces top-quality iron ore, which is an important material in steel for construction and manufacturing globally. We produce high-grade iron ore, a key ingredient in steel used in building and manufacturing around the world. Our mining operations are in the Northern Cape, with a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
Job Details:
Workplace Safety and Health
- Adhere to safety rules during training and work tasks.
- Maintain a clean workspace for team safety.
- Participate in safety checks and risk assessments.
Performance and Task Completion
- Be part of training: Take theoretical and practical classes as part of the 18-month program.
- Practical Tasks: Work under guidance in plant and mining operations, including machinery use, processing, and maintenance.
- Help with plant operations: Assist in daily tasks like checking equipment, recording data, and fixing small issues.
- Build technical skills: Learn about plant and mining processes, handling equipment, and improving production.
- Help the team meet training and production targets by working together.
- Finish evaluations to show how much you have learned and your skills.
- Keep track of your training progress, submit reports, and organize learning materials.
- Represent the company well, especially when interacting with local communities and areas sending workers.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 or N3 Technical, with either Mathematics Literacy or Mathematics; Physical Science is helpful.
- must be a citizen of South Africa and possess a legitimate form of identification (ID).
- Must have a South African driver's license.
- Proof of your residential address is also needed.
Basic technical skills:
- Able to follow instructions, read documents, and do simple calculations.
- Understanding of safety in the workplace and how to use personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Familiarity with how a mining environment works.
- Introductory understanding of how to minimize environmental harm and handle waste.
